Today, I was excited to be part of the launch of the Open2063 initiative, which is a network of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) that care about transparency, accountability and citizen participation. The initiative’s purpose is to build this network of CSOs to contribute to Africa2063, a process that the African Union is driving to plan for Africa’s future over the next 50 years.
What we hope to achieve with Open2063, to ensure that transparency, accountability and citizen engagement are part and parcel of Africa’s development over the next 50 years – to wit that even as we develop the continent, we can make sure that Africans take ownership and participate in the development of the continent and that governments facilitate this collaboration by publishing information and shining light to government affairs.
As a network we share the African Union’s vision for the next 50 years, towards an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena. We seek to work closely with other African organisations and governments as well as the African Union to ensure that we achieve this goal together.
I am so excited. The future is so bright in Africa, I am off to buy sunglasses.
